Waterfront projects, or "Sea Walls," provide a unique
and beautiful way to incorporate bank containment and erosion
control along various water applications. When considering the
use of Diamond® on such an application, remember that each
is unique and must be given special thought and planning when
designing.
The keys to successful waterfront projects are a level base
and proper installation. Achieving an adequately compacted and
level base is dependent upon the site's soil conditions. Once
a solid and compacted foundation is reached, units can be buried.
In some instances,
|
a poured concrete foundation is possible. In all applications,
the use of filter fabrics help prevent backfill leaching through
or contamination. For high velocity flows, the base should be
protected with an acceptable material, such as rip-rap. In addition
to protecting the footing, materials such as rip-rap also help
"lift" ice.
To date, segmental retaining walls have performed well in
waterfront applications including lakefront properties and pond
bank containment on golf courses and residential developments.
